At present, the industry standard USB PD charging protocol based on the USB Type-C interface is only open to 100W, although it is suitable for most documents and entry-level game laptops, but it is not enough for e-sports laptops that are often used to more than 150W or 240W. However, the USB Type-C interface should not be far away from a unified charging interface, according to the USB-IF in the recently disclosed USB Type-C cable and interface V2.1 update description, it is mentioned that USB PD 3.1 will be open to 240W. This also means that in addition to a few overclocked gaming laptops, future USB PDS will be able to provide ample power, no longer need to use a traditional power interface.

The future USB PD 3.1 charging specification based on the USB Type-C interface will support the 240W specification of 48V 5A

In the specification of the 3.1 revision of USB PD for the USB Type-C cable and interface V2.1 version, the minimum current tolerance of the USB PD specification remains 5A, but by further increasing the voltage from the current maximum 20V to 48V, the total power can reach 240W. This also means that devices that support USB PD 3.1 charging, such as laptops, need to be compatible with 48V; Also due to the change in voltage values and more than doubling of total power, USB-IF requires future alliance members to mark cables with ICONS that support a maximum of 240W to avoid consumer misuse.
